How to Cope with Stress

If you’re living with high levels of stress, you’re putting your entire well-being at risk. Stress is a normal part of life and every one experience it. You can feel stress in your body when you have too much to do or when you haven’t slept well. When you worry about things like your job, money, relationships, or a friend or family member who is ill or in crisis you will feel stress. When you live in unhealthy environment and consume large amount of free radicals you will feel stress.

As a result, and in response to these consequences you will feel tired, despaired, and lacked energy.  Moreover, your body automatically increases blood pressure, heart rate, respiration, metabolism, and blood flow to you muscles. 

This response is intended to help your body react quickly and effectively to a high-pressure situation. However, when you are constantly reacting to stressful situations without making adjustments to counter the effects, you will feel stress which can threaten your health and well-being. Research shows that stress can contribute to the development of major illnesses, such as heart disease, depression and obesity. It is noteworthy to mention that even your reproductive organs will also be affected by the stress. Reduced sexual desire in both males and females are due to stress.

How to cope with stress

1.    Relax: Each day, try to relax with a stress reduction technique.  There are many tried and tested ways to reduce stress so try a few and see what works best for you.

2.    Manage: manage your time. Accept that you cannot do everything at once and start to prioritise and diarise your tasks.

3.    Say No: It is important to say No for none important things in your life.

4.    Count: count to 10 before you speak or react.

5.    Eat Healthy: avoid all not natural or processed food. Your meals should be full of vegetables, fruit, whole grains, and lean protein for energy. And don’t skip any.

6.    Exercise: Working out is one of the most important ways to relax your mind and body

7.    Meditate: Meditation and mindful prayer help the mind and body to relax and focus. Mindfulness can help people see new perspectives, develop self-compassion and forgiveness. When practicing a form of mindfulness, people can release emotions that may have been causing the body physical stress. Much like exercise, research has shown that even meditating briefly can reap immediate benefits
